JOURNALISTS CHARGED TO REINVENT INVESTIGATIVE JOURNALISM
Mr Olu Akpata, a former President of the Nigeria Bar Association ( NBA), in a memorial lecture in honour of Elder Senator Anyim Ude, did stress the need for Labour associations, the press and NBA to work in collaboration, since they are conscience of the society.
Mr Olumide Akpata, who delivered a paper titled Freedom of the Press, Fake News, and the Rule of Law at Enugu Sports Club Auditorium , queried why investigative journalism has gone moribund.
Akpata, buttressing his view, cited the comment made by former Nigerian Senator Adamu Bulkachuwa, who confessed to having influenced his wife’s decisions while she was serving as the President of the Court of Appeal.
Olumide wondered why no journalists investigated such open confession, which was laid bare, exposing decay and decadence in the system.
Mr Olumide described, Elder Anyim Ude as a veteran journalist, broadcaster, technocrat, and a Senator par excellence, revealed that he is honoured to give a lecture in his memory.
He challenged Journalists not to allow the efforts of the likes of elder Anyim Ude to be wasted as he condoled with the family.
The memorial lecture was attended by the governor of Enugu, and Ebonyi States, the NUJ national president, delegates of NUJ Southeast and a host of others.
Elder Anyim Ude, was employed as a reporter on 15th May, 1965. He rose to be a veteran broadcaster and made significant impact in journalism and public governance.
