IMO LEGISLATURE APPLAUDS GOVERNOR UZODIMMA FOR ISSUING STAFF OFFICE TO DESERVING EZE’s ….. . as members solicit for the creation of more autonomous communities

The tenth Imo State House of Assembly has applauded the Governor of Imo State His Excellency Senator Hope Uzodimma for graciously approving the issuance of Staff Of Office and Certificates to sixty-three traditional rulers in the State

The commendation followed a Motion titled: MOTION TO COMMEND HIS EXCELLENCY SENATOR HOPE UZODIMMA THE GOVERNOR OF IMO STATE FOR GIVING STAFF OF OFFICE TO THE DESERVING TRADITIONAL RULERS IN IMO STATE, which was chiefly sponsored by the member for Ideato North State Constituency Hon Ernest Okey Udeze and ten other honorable members namely:-

  1. Rt. Hon. Chyna Iwuanyanwu
  2. Hon. Kanayo Onyemaechi
  3. Hon.Samuel Osuji
  4. Hon. Innocent Ikpamezie
  5. Hon. Gilbert Nwosu
  6. Hon. Henry Agbasonu
  7. Hon. Obinna Egu
    Presenting the motion that was seconded by Hon. Bernard Ozoemena, Hon. Okey Udeze stated “It is the responsibility of Imo state House of Assembly through its standing Committee to screen, verify and recommend accordingly the eligibility of Autonomous Communities with its designated and elected Ezes ( Traditional Rulers) and consequently forward recommendations to the Executive for final approval and recognition,” That the governor has again exhibited the confidence he has in the state house of assembly by acting on its recommendations.

Hon. Okey extolled the visionary leadership of Governor Hope Uzodimma for once more reviving the traditional system and institution in the state and governance closest to the people.

The chief sponsor of the Motion who is also the House Committee Chairman on Local Goverment, Chieftaincy Affairs And Autonomous Communities, said the Governor has once more demonstrated his resolve to give good governance to the people of the State. Hon Okechukwu Udeze expressed optimism that issues such as violence and crime which had before now characterized autonomous communities would be reduced to the barest minimum with the installation of the Traditional Rulers who he described as “gate-keepers of their various communities”.

Hon Okechukwu Udeze also commended the Governor for adhering to the resolutions and recommendations of the Rt Hon Chike Olemgbe led Imo State House Of Assembly in the selection of the Traditional Rulers of the New communities while soliciting for the creation of new communities to further strengthen governance at the rural areas and for meaningful developments

Contributing to the Motion, the Majority Leader Hon. Kanayo Onyemechi said that history was made as sixty-three elected traditional rulers were issued Staff of Office, which brought hope and joy to the various autonomous communities that have existed without rulers in the state.

Hon. Samuel Osuji of Isiala Mbano state constituency thanked the governor of Imo state for making the dreams of these Traditional Rulers become actual. He said, “Judging from the capacity and magnitude of the individuals who are lucky to have received the staff of office shows that the governor is detailed.”

He maintained that “These various autonomous communities can be bold enough to say that they now have a traditional ruler they can call on matters that have to with insecurity.”

After extensive engagements from members on the Motion, the Speaker Rt Hon. Chike Olemgbe put the question that was unanimously adopted. He thereafter read the prayers as follows

. Be it resolved that this Honorable House do commend the Governor of Imo State His Excellency, Dist. Senator. Hope Uzodimma for giving Staff of Office to the deserving Traditional Rulers in Imo State.

  • Be it also resolved by this Honourable House to urge His Excellency Distinguished Senator Hope Uzodimma, the Executive Governor of Imo State to consider the creation of new Autonomous Communities to ensure that the grassroot is carried along in the scheme of things.
    The speaker directed the Clerk Chinelo Emeghara Esq to convey the House Resolution to the Governor.
