HOUSE RESOLVES TO DIRECT THE COMMISSIONER FOR WORKS TO ENSURE THAT THE CONTRACTOR HANDLING THE RECONSTRUCTION OF AWO-OMAMMA-OKWUDOR ROAD IS MOBILISED TO RETURN TO SITE

In the bid to ensure that the road linking Awomamma in Oru East and Okwudor in Njaba becomes accessible, the Imo State House of Assembly has passed a Resolution directing the Ministry of Works to facilitate the urgent mobilization of the contractor handling Awo- Omamma /Okwuodor road to return to the site to enable reasonable work to be done before the rain sets in and to complete the project without further decay.

The motion titled: Motion to direct the Commissioner for works to ensure that the contractor handling Awomamma- Okwudor road returns to the site and speed up the road reconstruction ahead of on coming rainy season.

The Motion was sponsored by Hon. Ozioma worship Bennett Ebonine seconded by Hon. Chisom Ojukwu and Co-sponsored by

Hon. Ebonine while presenting the motion recalled that the road is a pre-colonial road that has strategic significance to the people because it aids in the mobility of people from Oru, Isu, Ideato, and Orsu nations which serves as economic channel of the area and Imo state in general.

Hon. Benneth made bold to say that the contractor abandoned the road project with the claim of insecurity, the poor state of the road has affected the economic life of the markets within Awomamma, Okwudor, Amucha, Atta, Orlu, and its environs which has led to the impoverishment of the people of the areas.

In his words ” I am amazed that the contractor abandoned the site claiming insecurity without noticing that it has been taken care of by the 3R government urging the contractor to commence work for normalcy has been restored to that environment.”

Hon. Ozioma Worship Ebonine stated that Awomamma ‘- Okwudor Road as a matter of priority was awarded for reconstruction by
His Excellency Dist Sen. Hope Uzodimma upon assumption of office in 2020 as he insisted that the contractor should go back to work.

Hon. Ikenna Ihezuo who spoke in favor of the motion stated that the road has been a viable link road that enhance Agriculture in that area. He urged the contractor to go back and complete his work.

Hon. Henry Agbasonu of Ezinitte state constituency added that the road in question is an important route in the Orlu zone which connects Orlu, Isu, Ideato, and Orsu local government areas.

He maintained that the road links Imo and Anambra states and this connectivity enhanced the exchange of goods and services.

Hon. Kingsley Ozurumba who spoke with the authority of his consistency reiterated that there is an absolute need for the contractor to return to the site and for the Commissioner for Works should to do the needful.

Nevertheless, the House resolved that the Commissioner for Works should ensure that the contractor constructs a proper drainage to channel and collect water properly while ensuring that the integrity of the road is sustained and does not affect the inhabitants of the region.

The Deputy Speaker Rt Hon Amara Iwuanyanwu directed the Clerk Chinelo Emeghara Esq to convey the House resolution to the Commissioner for Works
