ORLU POLITICAL CONSULTATIVE ASSEMBLY (OPOCA) GRANTS WORLD PRESS CONFERENCE, ENDORSE SEN. HOPE UZODIMMA AS SOLE CANDIDATE FOR 2023 GUBERNATORIAL ELECTIONS – Urges others to respect the subsisting Imo charter of Equity and Quit contest

The apex body of political
consciousness of Orlu zone, the Orlu Political CONSULTATIVE Assembly, OPOCA, in conjunction with other critical stakeholders, such as Orlu Zonal Council of Traditional Rulers and the 256 autonomous communities in Orlu zone, the Presidents General of the Town Unions of Orlu zone and the Sole Administrators of Local Government Councils in Orlu zone, resolved and conducted world press conference presenting six point agenda.

Reading the resolutions to the press at Nkwere Council Headquarters, Chief Barr. Rex. C. Anunobi, the National President of OPOCA gave the points of the press conference as follows:

  1. That the entire critical stakeholders of Orlu do pass vote of confidence on governor Hope Uzodimma following his excellent performance in office. They announced that he is hereby adopted as sole candidate for the gubernatorial election in November, 2023.
  2. That the governor has justified implicit confidence reposed in him by engendering infrastructural revolution, citing visible examples such as Owerri Orlu road, Owerri Okigwe road, Owerri-Mbaise-Umuahia road, institution of life saving Imo State Health Insurance Scheme and several youth and women empowerment programs, which according to him, are testimonies of His Excellency’s commitment to massive development of Imo State,
  3. Relying on the recently authored and signed Imo charter of Equity, the three zones of Imo State have recognised that Gov. Hope Uzodimma deserves a second tenure after which another zone will produce his successor and therefore based on his superlative performance in office, interested candidates from other zones are urged to quit the race and support His Excellency to complete his second tenure.
  4. That with the anticipated support from Owerri and Okigwe zones, who have already adopted His Excellency, Orlu is better strengthened with the charter of Equity and therefore rotation at the appropriate time will ensure equity and fairness,
  5. That the candidates from other zones are requested to hearken to words of reasoning and withdraw from the governorship race in total support for Orlu zone to complete the remaining term of office and therefore position themselves for succession according to the charter of equity.
  6. The governor was commended for his unrelenting efforts and synergy with security agencies in combating insecurity, said to be politically contrived, and warns those fanning the insecurity to desist or face the full wrath of the law.

Realising that the Deputy Governorship candidate of a major political party, Dr Jones Onyeriri, of PDP, hails from Orlu zone, the stakeholders resolved that high-powered delegation will be sent to him to urge him to withdraw from the race and support Orlu zone to complete the full course of second tenure according to the charter of equity. This was said to agree with recorded precedence in the history of politics of Orlu zone.

The stakeholders therefore held the press conference and officially presented the document to the special guest of Honour, Rt. Hon. Jerry Alagboso, Asiwaju, on behalf of Gov. Hope Uzodimma.

The signatories include: Chief Barr. Rex. C. Anunobi, National President of OPOCA, Hon. Goddy Esom Obodo, PhD, National Secretary, OPOCA, Adm. Hon. Willie T. C.
