Upper Legislative Chambers is not a place for rookies in Legislative business neither is it a retirement home for ageing political demigods but rather a chamber that seeks for the finest brains who understand the intricacies and peculiarities of the democracy being practiced.
Sen. Osita Bonaventure Izunaso has demonstrated that his constant presence in the Legislative enclave and eventual return to the Senate after 12 years of absence is not a fluke.
Contributing to a motion that harped on the importance of removing subsidy, by the government of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the first class lawyer and voracious Lawmaker dissected the real cause of perennial low refining power in Nigeria.
He stated that every country producing crude oil is bound to refine minimum of 30% output locally. This according to the well-read Lawmaker will ensure that there is stable fuel supply and conservation of jobs and removal of fluctuations in the supply Dynamics. He wondered how Nigeria continues to practice poor economic supply system whereby crude oil is exported to other countries and refined product is imported into the country. According to the outspoken Lawmaker, that is the origin of the bloated pricing that necessitates subsidy. He said that tackling this reverse economic practice will naturally produce stable and affordable pricing and jumpstart economic lives by creating jobs and spurring production ecosystem.

The post graduate degree holder in Law, public administration, Management and journalism queried why companies who did not design and construct refinery will be contracted to carry out turn around maintenance (TAM) of the Refinery, and viewed it as an aberration. He pointed out that turn around maintenance should be carried out by the company that built the refinery in order to connect the dots in the complex operational optimization.
Sen. Osita Izunaso is therefore placing the right arguments and the right approach with the requisite decorum to address the perennial problem of poor refineries performance in Nigeria and therefore urges the president His Excellency, Sen Bola Ahmed Tinubu to engage the right experts and revive the refineries as, this, according to the erudite Lawmaker is the right approach to providing palliative for the people.
Izunaso is the right person and he has taken his seat, a blend of experience, intellectual prowess, cosmopolitan orientation, pan-Nigerian outlook and a global figure has come to take the Senate by storm through articulate presentation and effective representation.
