IMO HOUSE OF ASSEMBLY ADOPTS UZODIMMA AS A SOLE CANDIDATE FOR IMO GUBERNATORIAL ELECTIONS OF NOVEMBER 2023

The 10th Imo State House of Assembly held their 3rd seating on Tuesday, 10th July 2023. At the plenary, two important motions were moved and debated.

First of the motions was for health, under urgent public importance, calling for urgent attention to the spread of diphtheria and the call for immediate action. The motion was sponsored by Hon. Dr Henry Agbasonu of Ezinihitte Mbaise Constituency and seconded by Hon. Kelechi Ofurum of Owerri North Constituency. The house upheld that diphtheria is a population health threat and therefore urged the Government to take appropriate measures to protect the population from its spread. He cited the report that diphtheria has already been reported to have spread in some states and saw it as a wake up call to engage in preventive measures.

The second motion of the day was to adopt the governor, His Excellency Sen Hope Uzodimma as a sole candidate for the gubernatorial elections of Imo State in November 2023.

The motion was sponsored by Hon. James Uba Esile of Onuimo Constituency. He was seconded by Hon. Samuel Ogbunikpa of Okigwe Constituency.

Presenting the motion, the sponsor catalogued the series of achievements of the governor which Ultimately qualify him to deserve a second term in office. It was reiterated that the reward for good work is more work and therefore for the performance of Sen. Hope Uzodimma so far, he deserves a second tenure without any Challenger.

Hon. Esile presented the achievements of the governor to include: Construction of quality roads, installation of solar light on the roads, construction of drainages and control of flood with balloon technology, roads such as Orlu Owerri road, Owerri Okigwe road, Owerri Emekuku, Mbaise, Umuahia road, MCC road and lots more.

In addition, he stated that the governor reconstructed and upgraded Imo State House of Assembly complex and turned it into a world class facility, he is presently constricting new Imo International Convention Center (IICC), retrieval of IBC orient staff complex, retrieval of KO Mbadiwe KOU University, etc.

He further cited the double promotion of civil servants and the payment of 13th month benefit to workers, and lots more, among the achievements of the governor. The sponsor specifically said that the governor has demonstrated administrative competence and procedural excellence and therefore deserves a second tenure unopposed.

In the course of discussion, other lawmakers took turns to commend the governor for good works so far and unanimously agreed that he deserves to be adopted as sole candidate for the next governorship election.

Mention was made of the various zonal adoptions, which includes the people of Owerri zone, Okigwe zone and Orlu zone, where imo Stakeholders, on charter of equity, agreed that the governor should be supported to complete his second term and after which it becomes the turn of the next zone. Also his exploits at the national level where he has launched IMO State into national political grid was emphasized. His present election as the chairman Progressive Governors Forum and chairman South East Governors’Forum was hailed as indicators of his leadership sagagcity, which should make Imo people proud of their leader.

Gov. Hope Uzodimma’s intervention in brokering peace for ndi Igbo in Lagos with the Lagos State government and his organising South East stakeholders forum in Abuja to address the security challenges of the region was applauded and extolled as the strides of a visionary leader.

Also mention was made of his giant accomplishments in facing insecurity frontally, a reason that has made Imo State the safest state in South East region today. Governor Hope Uzodimma was given high assement grading for his performance in various sectors and therefore adopted in unison by all, across party affiliations, for reelection, a sole candidate status.

Those who contributed to the debate includes Rt. Hon. Amara Iwuanyanwu, Rt. Hon. Dominic Ezerioha, Hon. Ozioma Worship Ebonine, Ezengwori Njaba, Hon. Innocent Ikpamezie, and other lawmakers present. The session was presided over by the speaker, Rt. Hon. CHIKE Olemgbe.
