IZUNASO SPONSORS FIRST MOTION TO ADDRESS ECOLOGICAL CHALLENGES IN ORLU ZONE
Experience means so much in Legislative business, no doubt an old spoon scoops better. This axiom is evidenced in the person of Sen. Osita Izunaso, the ranking senator representing Imo West senatorial district.
On the second plenary session of the 10th Senate, Izunaso showed glimpse of his preparedness to take the Senate by storm by doing what he knows best. He demonstrated that a ranking member understands the corners of the Legislative Chambers and went on to sponsor a motion of urgent national importance to address the landslide ravaging Orlu zone.
Anyone could wonder if there was nobody representing the good people of Orlu before him and why it was not given national prominence until the return of Sen. Osita Izunaso.
That is to say that Legislative sagacity and experience cannot be wished away in selecting someone who goes to shoulder the call of the people, the eyes of the people and the representative with clout and carriage.
Collapse of Obodoukwu, URualla, Akokwa, Umumaisiaku, Umuchima and Umueshi occasioned by devastating gully erosion covering Ideato North and South has become of national dimension.
The distinguished Senator and lawyer urged the government to quickly intervene to reverse the dilapidation and destruction of the area which had so far caused damages worth over 4 billion naira.
In a spectacular manner and as a proof of sensitivity, the Senate President, Obong Godswill Akpabio, granted permission for it’s discussion at the plenary.
After exhaustive discussion of the motion, the Senate urged the Ecological Fund Office, EFO, and the National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA to engage experts, including hydrologists, and environmental engineers to do the needful to address the environmental challenges.
Senate also directed NEMA to initiate relocation procedure and resettlement of high-risk areas.
Dist. Sen. Osita Izunaso made it clear that his return to the red Chambers is not for jamboree but for effective Legislative prowess, promising to engage in Legislative activities to benefit the people of Orlu zone.
