The representative of Oguta State Constituency at the Imo House of Assembly, Hon. Gilbert Nwosu has reiterated his commitment to fighting insecurity in the area.

Nwosu, who gave the assurance during a courtesy call from Orsu Obodo youths to his office, said he will put in his best effort to secure the lives and property of his constituents.

Speaking during the visit, he lamented the rising insecurity in the constituency, which had led to the loss of many lives.

Hon. Nwosu recalled that no fewer than 18 young people had been killed in Orsu obodo since 2021, while many families have been affected.

While reacting to calls to hand over the security of the area to the youth, the lawmaker stated that he had employed trained security operatives who have been charged with the protection of the constituents.

He added that the operatives had been employed following the due processes for the establishment of vigilante groups as outlined by the Police Commissioner.

He, however, constituted a five man committe charged with selecting 15 youths who will join the already established vigilante group.

He added that the candidates will be reviewed on a weekly basis to determine their strengths and fish out defaulters to avoid frustrating his efforts safeguarding the area.

“If we succeed in whipping insecurity in Orsu obodo community, we can have peace and tranquility as well as development; our people will be happy and investors can safely come in and invest in our land,” Nwosu stated.

Earlier, the Orsu Obodo Youth Leader, Mr Savers Ugochukwu, thanked the lawmaker for his efforts geared towards improving the living standards of the youth of the area.

Ugochukwu also bemoaned the attacks on the people of the area by external security agents, who allegedly shoot people without provocation.

He appealed to Nwosu to hand over the security to the youth of the area, noting that they would leverage their familiarity with the area to secure the community effectively.

Also speaking during the visit, Mr Chukwuemeka Oganuzo, a member of the local vigilante, called for security materials such as Cutlasses, Torch lights, whistles for the operatives.

He equally called for licensed gun handlers, especially professional hunters, to join the group
