Imo State Universal Basic Education Board (IMSUBEB) has embarked on the training of 6003 teachers across the 27 local government areas of the State inorder to boost education in the State.
The Executive Chairman of IMSUBEB, Hon. Chidiebere Egboh made this known while flagging off the 2023/2024 Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC)/ State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) Teacher Professional Development (TPD) training in Owerri.
Egboh who represented the State Governor, Hope Uzodimma said the training is designed to equip educators with the tools, skills and methodologies required to enhance learning outcomes and efficaciously meet the diverse needs of learner’s.
He reiterated that the training is a true testament of the present administration’s commitment to the future of Imo children and the teachers who he described as the backbone of the education system and cornerstone upon which the edifice of quality education is built.
The Executive Chairman said the training will focus on nine core areas which includes: School based training,Head teacher/ leadership training, Jolly phonics, Early childhood care development in Education, STEP (Strengthen Teachers English Proficiency )among others
“We have gathered six thousand and three teachers from across the state, a testament of the importance we place on empowering our work force in the education sector by investing in our teachers, we are investing in the future of Imo State.
This training is not just a one_off event it is a part of a broader , long _term strategy to continuously build the capacity of our teachers, foster excellence in teaching and ensure that our schools produce graduates who are well equipped for the challenges of the future.
We are committed to monitoring and evaluation of the progress of this program…to ensure that these newly acquired skills are effectively applied in the classroom”.
Also Speaking, the Director Teacher Professional Development (TPD) IMSUBEB, Lady Ifeyinwa Ethel Ojimba lauded Governor Hope Uzodimma for making the training a reality and commended the Executive Secretary of UBEC Hajija Alisha Garba and Alvan Ikoku Federal University of Education for being part of the success story.
Lady Ojimba called on all the teachers to take advantage of the training.
In their separate address, the Universal Basic Education Board Officer in charge of monitoring the training in Imo State, Nwauja Chris, and the State Chairman National Union of Teachers, (NUT), Rev. Philip Nwansi encouraged teachers and the training institution (Alvan Ikoku Federal University of Education) to give in their best while applauding Governor Hope Uzodimma prioritizing training of teachers.
Some of the participants thanked the Governor and the IMSUBEB boss Hon. Egboh for giving them the opportunity and promised to take full advantage of the training.
