The state House of Assembly under the leadership of Speaker , Rt. Hon. Chike Olemgbe has Resolved to urge the Governor of Imo State to leverage on the provisions of the Imo State Public Private Partnership law no 11 of 2020 (as amended) and use the Public Private Partnership (PPP) business module to bring in investors to revive the moribund industries scattered all over the State and to establish new ones in order to close the infrastructural gap currently existing in the state.
This motion was presented at plenary by Rt. Jon. Amara Chyna Iwuanyanwu and seconded by Rt. Hon. Chigozie Nwaneri ( Chief whip).
Presenting the motio , Rt. Hon. Amara said, “Aside funding from the Private sector, you would agree with me that the Private sector would bring along the latest technology and innovation, vis-a-vis, the Public sector long standing tradition of supervision, monitoring and protecting the people’s right. Also, We are presently in a period of global meltdown and unpredictable fluctuations in Foreign Exchange. On the strength of this, therefore, it would be advisable for the government to get into the PPP arrangements to get things quickly done. We have this law on the ground. Therefore, I would like to urge the governor of Imo State to leverage the Provisions of the PPP Law. “
Rt Hon. Amara Chyna Iwuanyanwu,solicited for the support of his colleagues as he emphasized, “What we have between the Legislative Arm and Executive Arm is Partnership in progress. As a legislative arm, our job is to make the law and give the executive arm the tools to work. Therefore, in the spirit of this Partnership, I urge the People’s Governor and Construction Maestro, Distinguished Senator Hope Uzodimma, to key into the State PPP Law No 11 of 2018, as Amended, and open the thodyntes of Imo State for investors to come in and embark in massive infrastructure revolution”.
Supporting the motion, Hon. Kanayo Onyemechi, who is the majority leader, saw it as a motion that requires urgent attention, which will be used to revive all moribund projects that will bring massive change in the state.
Hon. Johnleoba Iheoha, representing Ikeduru State Constituency, joined his voice in support of the motion urging the state government to rejinx the industrial sector in the state.
While Hon. Ugochukwu Amuchie, who is the minority leader of the House, urged the state government to find a way to bring investors to reactivate all the industries such as Ada Palm, Avutu Poultry, Standard Shoe etc.
He maintained, “We have conquered the problem of insecurity in Imo State, and people will be encouraged to come over to Imo State to invest without any fear.”
Satisfied with their various opinions, suggestions, and views, the Speaker Rt. Hon. Chike Olemgbe read the prayer, which was unanimously adopted. The Speaker Ruled as follows :
“BE IT RESOLVED By This Honourable House To Urge The Governor Of Imo State To Leverage On The Provisions Of The Imo State Public Private Partnership Law No. 11 Of 2018 (As Amended) And Use The Public Private Partnership (PPP) Business Module To Bring In Investors To Revive The Moribund Industries Scattered All Over Imo State, And Establish New Ones In Order To Close The Infrastructural Gap Currently Existing In The State”.
The Clerk Chinelo Emeghara Esq was thereafter, directed to communicate the Resolution of the House to His Excellency Senator Hope Odidika Uzodimma, the Governor of Imo state.
