NAWOJ IMO STATE CHAPTER AND WOMEN OPTOMETRISTS IN NIGERIA IMO STATE CHAPTER DISTRIBUTE PADS TO MARK 2024 MENSTRUAL HYGIENE DAY

In marking the 2024 children’s day and menstrual hygiene awareness the Imo State chapter of Women Optometrists In Nigera,(WON) in partnership with Nigeria Association Of Women Journalists in Imo State on Wednesday 29th May,2024 visited Imo Housing Primary School Aladinma.

The pupils were taught all they needed to know concerning menstruation, inclusive of how to maintain cleanliness.

Dr Amarachi Opara …who educated the school children on how they can manage their sight and keep them healthy and stressing on the danger of reckless behavior among children which could lead to poor eyesight or outright damage such as handling dangerous objects close to the eyes, throwing stones at each other, using non medicated glasses during cases of sight challenges and using prescribed glasses belonging to others.

Dr Amarachi Opara , who is the state chairperson of WON , educated the girls on the different types of materials that they can use for their period. She taught them about the use of disposable pads, reusable pads, menstrual cups, tampons, and menstrual pants.

The resource person of WON Dr.Ifeyinwa Agwa speaking to the pupils mentioned why it is very important for them to observe basic menstrual hygiene.

She encouraged them to ensure they take their bath more often during that period,wash their clothes properly,wash their hands properly to avoid transmitting germs to wears they want to us and change their pad after 4-6 hours.

Also,Dr.Offonze MaryJane, the WON secretary, mentioned that they should not fail to visit a gynocolgist in case of any suspected challenge for proper medication.

The Nigeria Association of Women Journalists Chairperson Dr. Dorothy Nnaji, represented by her Vice Chizoba Opara, while speaking mentioned, that as girls being decent is important.

Continuing,she mentioned that the association is interested in the girl child reason why they have come to have interaction with them as well as enlighten them on things they need to know as growing up girls.

In conclusion,she asked them not to take for granted what they have learned
