Imo State House of Assembly passes motion for the rehabilitation of moribund Nkwerre General Hospital

Members of Imo State House of Assembly, had on Tuesday May 21, 2024, at plenary unanimously adopted a motion sponsored by Hon. (Barr.) Chisom Ojukwu for the rehabilitation, upgrading and remodeling of the only general hospital in the whole of Nkwerre LGA, gutted by fire, more than eight (8) years ago.
Presenting the motion, Hon. (Barr) Chisom Ojukwu explained that Nkwerre LGA, comprises of ten electoral wards and eleven autonomous communities with an estimated population of 111,600 people all of who depended on the now moribund Nkwerre general hospital, for medical care. He described as makeshift and unfinished, the proposed general hospital complex, which construction was started by Owelle Rochas Okorocha, at Eziama Obaire. And that the premises of the makeshift general hospital has been annexed by the NYSC orientation camp, also in the area, thus the people of Nkwerre have no access to any medical facility run by the Imo state government.
He also informed his colleagues that the burnt general hospital premises at Nkwerre apart from turning to a hide out for criminal elements and bandits, is now a habitat for dangerous reptiles and pests. It is against this backdrop that he pleaded with them to support his motion by urging the Governor of Imo State to reconstruct the dilapidated general hospital.
After several contributions and deliberations in support of the motion, the House resolved to urge the Governor to direct a combined team to embark on on the spot Inspection and assessment of the premises, by the ministries of Works, Housing and Urban Development as well as that of health with a view to commencing thorough remodeling and rehabilitating the general hospital to enable it serve its primary purposes of stabilizing patients, administering critical interventions and to ensure timely access to specialized emergency medical services to the good people of Nkwerre LGA.
Other members of the House of Assembly who co-sponsored the motion include Hon. Amara Iwuanyanwu, Hon. Ozioma Worship Ebonine, Hon. Kingsley Ozurumba, Hon. Ikenna Ihezuo, Hon. Okechukwu Udeze, Hon. Johnson Duru, Hon Francis Agabige, Hon. Chigozie Nwaneri, Hon James Esile and Hon. Henry Agbasonu.
