Imo House of Assembly adopts resolution urging Governor Uzodimma, to reconstitute IRROMA Board, sustain infrastructural revolution
By: Ajuzie chizoba The Imo State House of Assembly (IMHA) on Wednesday May 22, 2024, adopted a resolution urging the Governor of Imo State, His Excellency, Distinguished Senator Hope Uzodimma (CON), to immediately Reconstitute the Board of the Imo State Rural Roads Maintenance Agency (IRROMA) established several years ago by ex-Governor , Ikedi Ohakim, but which was abandoned by his immediate successor. His successor sold-off the heavy duty equipment, procured for the regular grading and maintenance of rural roads.
The motion was sponsored by Hon. Obinna Egu, the House Member Representing Ngor – Okpala State Constituency with Hons. Amara Iwuanyanwu, Kanayo Onyemaechi, Chigozie Nwaneri, Henry Agbasonu, Innocent Ikpamezie, Chisom Ojukwu, Bernard Ozoemelam, Samuel Osuji and Princewill Amuchie as co-sponsors.
Presenting the motion before the Honourable members at plenary, Hon. Obinna Egu, who represents Ngor-Okpala State Constituency, stated, “whereas the Imo State Rural Roads Maintenance Agency (IRROMA) was launched on the 15th day of November 2008, with the responsibility of opening up rural roads and linking all parts of the state as plans to make Imo state a one-city state”.
Continuing, “Hon. Obinna Egu said, the IRROMA initiative which was conceived by the ex-governor Ikedi Ohakim administration had focused on transforming the state into a model with emphasis on industrialization and enterprise, provision of social infrastructure, respect for rule of law, tackling environmental issues and resuscitating key institutions”. He however regretted that IRROMA suffered total negligence and poor management by successive administrations and governments culminating in a moribund state and defunct thus negating its primary responsibility.
In the course of its deliberation, the House considered the motion on its merit considering the fact, Governor Hope Uzodimma since assumption of office in 2020, has made significant progress in building critical road infrastructures in the state, through efficient and judicious management of available resources. They noted that when revived, IRROMA will add impetus to the government’s rural roads revolution to stem the tide of flooding arising from downpours in the rural communities.
The House called on the Governor to ensure that no part of the state rural areas remains inaccessible, due to bad roads.
