By : Ajuzie chizoba The poor state and deplorable conditions of rural road infrastructure, in Imo State has attracted the attention of members of Imo State House of Assembly.
Last Wednesday May 22, 2024 at plenary, many of the members invoked the provisions of the 1999 constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, as amended, claiming responsibility of making laws, oversight function, and representation of constituents, for the peace and good governance of the state.
It was consequent upon this that the House adopted a motion sponsored by the House of Assembly Member Representing Isu State Constituency, Hon. Kingsley Ozurumba, urging the Governor of Imo state, His Excellency, Distinguished Senator Hope Uzodimma to direct the Ministry of Works, Housing and Urban Development to Intervene , Reconstruct , and stop Uburu Ekwe road, being the only major road linking Uburu Ekwe community and Isu Njaba, with over 30,000 inhabitants, whose sources of living/livelihood have been devastated and at times completely shut down, to experience reprieve.
He also stated the need or the importance of reconstruction of the road as to ” Save Our Community’s Soul” ( SOS) for easy access, he said.
For instance, at the Isu Njaba axis of the road, gully erosion has completely cut-off Ubah-Umunwammiri end, which is presently being worked on. At the Uburu axis however, all roads connecting it are completely washed off by rain-activated erosion, people living in the area are completely cut-off.
Additionally, the Nworienkpu-Uburu Ekwe road and the other communities have been completely washed off by fragments of erosion caused by severe rainfall, thus leaving the community with no alternative to connect other parts of the LGA or the state in general.
Besides, they urged the amiable Governor to embark on thorough Repairs, Rehabilitation and Reconstruction work on the aforementioned roads, so as to allow the citizens access other parts of the state, pending any major or permanent solution to the erosion problem.
The motion was passed with unanimous support and the clerk urged to do the needful.
The motion was co-sponsored by Hons. Ozioma Worship Ebonine, Clinton Amadi, Ikenna Ihezuo, Chisom Ojukwu, Samuel Osuji, Johnleoba Iheoha, Innocent Ikpamezie and Francis Agabige.
