PRESS RELEASE

RE: FAAN SHUTS DOWN KFC IN MMIA, IKEJA

The attention of the Distinguished Senator representing Imo West Senatorial District and the grandpatron of National Association of People Living with Disabilities, PLWD, Sen. Barr. Osita Bonaventure Izunaso, has been drawn to the embarrassment meted out to a physically challenged person by KFC Management in Murtala Mohammed International Airport, Lagos.

Distinguished Senator Osita Bonaventure Izunaso applauds the action of the management of FAAN in order to protect the people living with Disabilities in Nigeria.

This response of FAAN to the discriminatory action meted out to one Debola Daniel, who has reduced mobility (RM), at the airport on Wednesday, presents the wrong mindset of many who have not yet accepted that people living with Disabilities are the same as people who have everything going for them. There is only a thin line between deformity and normalcy and a society that does not preserve its vulnerable remains a crude society.

As a grandpatron of the National Association of people living with Disabilities and the President of Kpakpando Foundation, a reputable non-governmental Organization focusing on the thematic area of caring for the people living with Disabilities and an award recipient of the USA presidential award as endorsement for promotion of welfare of people living with Disabilities, Dist. Sen. Osita Izunaso commends FAAN for the prompt action to redress such insensitive conduct of KFC.

The Distinguished Senator calls on all Nigerians to become ambassadors of the promotion of civil conduct and promotion of dignity of lives for the people living with Disabilities, as such will earn the nation an egalitarian society where the vulnerable are protected.

Eternal vigilance will protect and help to implement the rights and privileges of the PLWD and we urge other states to rise to protect the rights and privileges of people living with Disabilities, PLWD.

PLWD are our brothers, sisters, uncle’s, aunt’s, nephews, nieces, friends, associates, let’s fight for their rights.

Signed
Amb. Anthony Akalugo, ANIPR
Media Assistant to Sen. Barr. Osita Bonaventure Izunaso, Kpakpando Orlu
