A bill sponsored by the Honourable Member Representing Oguta State Constituency, Hon. Gilbert C. Nwosu, was passed last Thursday. It was considered after it went through the committee of the whole house and passed.
Imo State House of Assembly has passed a bill to make skill acquisition and craftsmanship mandatory in every primary, secondary school, and also establish the same in tertiary institutions in the state.
Shortly after the bill was passed by the house, the speaker of Imo state house of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Chike Olemgbe commended the Lawmakers for adding value to legislation. Rt. Hon. Olemgbe commended the Lawmakers for providing rich input during consideration of the bill. He stated that he will make sure that bills and motions in the 10th assembly will be given needed attention to ensure that quality and impactful bills are produced for the state.
While speaking with Imo state House of Assembly press crew in his office, Hon. Gilbert Nwosu opined that the bill would reduce unemployment in the state and also keep the youths busy and enlightened in skills work.
Hon.Nwosu, stated that economic crisis in the country motivated him to move the motion on skill acquisition and craftsmanship centre, thanking God that the bill has passed. He commended his colleagues for granting accelerated consideration and for finding it timely and necessary to improve the lot of the people, an instrument to unlock Economic potentials of the state.
Hon. Nwosu further noted that white collar jobs are no longer available in the country, as youths now readily involve themselves in Yahoo Yahoo and other criminal activities , all because of lack of skills.
Lastly, he noted that with the help of skill, people can add more value without going to higher institutions. And even for those who attend higher institutions, the new order is innovation and creativity and skills for value addition and economic reward.
He thanked the proactive Governor, His Excellency Distinguished Senator Hope Uzodimma for his good work in the state and Nigeria and also prayed that he will give a very speedy assent to the bill, for the good of all.
