IZUNASO SUES FOR ENLISTING OF MORE NIGERIAN CONGLOMERATES IN CAPITAL MARKET TO IMPROVE THE TAX SYSTEM AND ENHANCE BUSINESS CLIMATE
When there is a call for workshop organised for institutions in Nigeria, there are three categories of participants.
The first is those who feel that it’s a mere waste of time, that whatever would be discussed may not substantially improve their pockets. They participate to mark attendance so as to earn whatever be the training allowance mapped out for participants. If they have opportunity, they will mark attendance, excuse themselves and go elsewhere.
The second group are the people who attend in order to please the leader of the institution. So that they will make sure that the leader sites them and remarks that they attended. For instance in the event of Senate workshop of Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms, the interest is not to go deep into the subject matter but to report attendance with the leader, perhaps the Senate President, taking note. No interest in the subject matter whatsoever.
The last group makes up the 3% top echelon of the pyramid, who constitute those who are critical and want to delve into dismantling whatever has been the cog in the wheel of transformation of the nation. They wear their thinking cap, go on to make researches and contribute intelligently and coherently to improve the policy and legislative framework and ensure that there is a take-home from such events.
That 3% category is the gathering of Eggheads, erudite and informed people. Dist. Sen. Osita Izunaso, Kpakpando Orlu, the senator representing Imo West Senatorial District, is one among the 3% category.
His participation in the fiscal policy and Tax Reforms workshop is not a fluke. In addition and in total Concord with the ongoing discourse, he intelligently made remarkable contributions to enrich the ongoing robust discourse. Izunaso stated that the inability of Glo mobile to enlist in the capital market is a discredit to the economic development policy of the country. He opined that it is only just over 100 companies that are quoted and wondered why others are not encouraged to do so, knowing well that performance of such companies help to encourage foreign investors to invest in Nigeria and as well, it helps the tax system.
Barr. Izunaso added that Nigeria presently operates tax to GDP ratio of 8% whereas a country like South Africa operates tax to GDP ratio of 78%. He posited that Nigerian fiscal system and tax system can be improved if there is concise and focused approach towards transforming these areas and enriching the policy.
Sen. Osita Bonaventure Izunaso is no doubt demonstrating an uncommon intellectual prowess and erudition in the red Chambers while operating a near perfect team culture for collectivist political life.
Kudos to Kpakpando Orlu, we are proud of you, you are doing what we sent you to do for humanity, not just Orlu enclave.
