Sen. Osita Izunaso, the ranking Senator representing Imo West Senatorial District has continued to uphold his personal covenant he made and his promise to annually celebrate and empower the People Living with Disabilities, otherwise called the physically challenged or the disabled.

The national grandpatron of the people living with Disabilities considered the affairs of the physically challenged and as such set up Kpakpando Foundation to focus on the thematic area of fending for the physically challenged.
The United Nations award winner on Friday, 29th September, 2023, inaugurated the organising Committee for the 2023 edition and appointed the Imo State commissioner for Agriculture, Chief COSMAS Maduba, Odoebube Isu, as the chairman. Odoebube, who was the chairman Kpakpando Campaign council was appointed to lead a crack team of eminent personalities composed to form the organising Committee.

In his speech at the inaugural session, Sen. Osita Bonaventure Izunaso reiterated that since the establishment of Kpakpando Foundation, the celebration has never been skipped as it holds on 30th October every year. Regardless of the challenges of Ebola, Covid 19, End SARS, etc., the foundation continued to trudge on without skipping any season. Distinguished Senator emphasized that the celebration is a covenant he made and that he will continue to sustain it given whatever resources he can pull together, but added that support could be accepted from quarters for the needy.

Barr. Osita Izunaso is carefully addressing the gap in the society where the vulnerable are overlooked both in policy and empowerment. He explained that further to his desires to make life better for the special citizens, he has sponsored a bill to repeal and reenact an act for the people living with Disabilities in order to provide relevant enablement including but not limited to financial appropriation and establishment of contributory funds that makes it mandatory for private and public quoted companies to contribute 1% of their returns to the fund for the special citizens.

It is necessary to point out that care for the physically challenged is a critical part of transformation of our socioeconomic and sociopolitical system to engender egalitarian mould and a civilized society. He is therefore leading a humanitarian role that seeks to establish sense of inclusion and dignity.
Sen. Izunaso emphasized that the program of the foundation is not political but totally humanitarian.
The Chairman of the organising Committee, Chief COSMAS Maduba, Odoebube Isu, thanked the Distinguished Senator for finding him worthy to serve. He promised to do his best particularly for the sake of the less privileged and for the attainment of the vision of the founder and the president of the foundation, Sen Izunaso, and urged all members to put hands on deck for the success of the program coming up on 29th October 2023.
