Mbaise nation held their 2023 Iriji Mbaise festival on Tuesday and the event witnessed attendance of dignitaries including government functionaries.

Gov. Hope Uzodimma showed solidarity with Mbaise nation as he attended the event, which was confirmed to be a ritual he has been known for, identifying with them during their celebration annually.

The governor, during his address, emphasized the need for the people of Mbaise to continue to promote unity stating that unity spells success.

On matters of governorship election that is coming up in November, the governor urged the people to be strategic in their decision process in order to get the best going forward. He added that about winning elections, that people do not need to bother themselves as according to him, “we cross the bridge when we reach it”. He reminded them of the need to align properly and build bridges necessary.

It was a form of embarrassment that while the governor was addressing the crowd, Sen. Samuel Anyanwu (Sam Daddy) with his exuberant youths marched into the crowd chanting songs and attempted to disrupt the speech of the governor and the event.

Had the security apparatus not been sensitive and civil, the situation would have led to breakdown of laws and order but the governor, in his characteristic way, ignored the distraction and continued his address. Sen. Sam Daddy and his irate mob breached security protocol and disrespected constituted authority.

Dignitaries present were all embarrassed with the conduct and wondered if Sen. Sam Daddy could not realise that he ought to have shown respect to a sitting governor by order of Protocol.

Iriji Mbaise festival is a gathering that fosters socioeconomic and sociopolitical advancement of Mbaise nation, their culture and their identity and therefore is not a platform to fester political mileage and to cultivate uncultured behavior.

Prominent people present saw the action as an affront on the people and therefore doubted the credibility of the person of Sen. Sam. Daddy and his show of lack of respect for the seat of power.

Sir Stanley Amuchie, a one time GOVERNORSHIP aspirant and banking Executive was the chairman of the 2023 Iriji Mbaise festival. He thanked the governor and all for coming to identify with Mbaise nation and assured that Mbaise nation will continue to sustain the festival and to promote development ideals.
